The Other World
c Oct 2015
In the other world, I am still a girl.
My father is still my father,
And my mother is my mother,
And my brother, my brother.
We all go to church and serve happily,
And have frequent dinners together.

In the other world, I have friends I grew up with.
And I'm allowed to cry, and laugh, and scream.
And jump on the bed.
And have a dog. Or two.

In the other world, I am a straight A student.
I am also an artist, a writer, a musician, an athlete.
I am mild tempered, and am not afraid to love people sincerely.
I am easy-going, patient, kind in the other world. I promise.

In the other world, I dream.
I am allowed to think, express, hope for, without being "unrealistic."
I can stretch my mind to its limits over and over again.
I get to travel the world, and all I see, I savour.
And I get lost in the other other worlds of my own.

In the other world, I am free.
I am not neck-deep in wishful thinking.
I don't have to be chained to your hand,
And write pieces of crap like this in secret.
this is not a poem.
