I am lost,
and more than that,
I have lost everything

I was caught
that morning when I was out
hunting for food nearby
to bring back to my family

I can still hear them cry

I was trapped
with other birds
and transported
to a distant land
and locked up in a cage

with some water and some sand

I am watered and I am fed
but I don't belong here
for my heart is in constant pain
knowing I will never see
never be
with my family again

please just let me go home

A simple hand gesture,
Done in the correct way,
Can replace words and thoughts,
Of what we want to say.
a quatrain

I watched the sea and its creamy rolling waves,
The streaks of white racing to wash the shore,
And I listened to the cries of swooping birds,
They were a dozen seagulls, maybe more.

The evening sun was shedding its final glow,
As I wandered along the sleepy beach,
The tired sky was packing up its colours,
Its transient beauty just beyond my reach.

A cool breeze ruffled my hair and brushed my face,
Recalling sensuous moments I have had,
I was deeply immersed in nature’s beauty,
And felt so happy yet also so sad.

Happy New Year Everyone,
Let’s hope the Dragon year
Will bring us lots of Love, Joy and Fun,
And wars and hatred everywhere will cease,
Once and for all, so that all of us can live
Our earthly lives in Harmony and Peace,
So Happy New Year Everyone,
Let’s hope the old is finished and done.

way beyond the darkening hills,
unseen brushes with varied hues,
are painting the distant skyline,
with violet, gold and pastel blues
while twilight descends soft as silk,
enveloping the clouds and sky,
the evening sun turns round and red,
the silent moon and stars stand by.

Shaun Yee Jan 2021
The nights when heavens switch on the stars,
Lighting up the blackness way up there,
This celestial beauty is for us,
To fully enjoy no matter where;
Stars rekindle our thoughts of love,
Spreading silent serenity plus,
So stop and relax and look above,
The nights when heavens switch on the stars.

Humility is not weakness
There is no shame to be humble
It’s just a sign of acceptance
Shaun Yee Mar 2021
Humour is the fun side of life,
And a daily generous slice,
Will squash most suffering and  strife,
It's free for all without a price.

Sad is the one who knows it not,
He will be stuck in misery,
For the mind needs a balanced plot,
To maintain it fresh and cheery,

So open up and see the joke,
Laugh and enjoy the funny side,
Give your gloominess a hard  poke,
Don't let your humour be denied. .

I don’t sleep like anyone else,
Turned to one side or on my back,
I always like to hang myself,
Upside-down for I have the knack;

I do have an in-built radar,
So I can see without the light,
For I am really very blind,
In all my flights in day or night.

I am the prettiest of them all.

More colours than the rainbows have I,
With a myriad of designs on my wings,
Four of them for me to flit and fly,
From flowers to flowers and natured things.

I was not born beautiful at dawn,
A crawling caterpillar was my start,
But like ugly duckling and the swan,
I was transformed into a piece of art.

I am the prettiest of them all.

I don’t walk forward like everyone,
I just don’t know how,
I always walk sideways from side to side,
Like what I am doing now;

My eyes are not inside my head,
I can’t keep them there,
They protrude out a bit instead,
But I can still see everywhere.
Shaun Yee Apr 2021
They all know I will never let them down,
Women love me, and in turn I love them,
I make sure with me they will never frown,
‘cos to all women I’m a precious gem.

Many female hearts melt at sight of me,
And most wives all over adore me too,
Since such a cool seducer I can be,
Most men will select me their brides to woo.

I can really be a large, dazzling stone,
Or maybe just a tiny sparkling bit,
But no matter what form when I’m alone,
I will always be a favourite hit.

For I am a star that is never tame,
So now I tell you, diamond is my name.

I wear a permanent smile,
So when you see my friendly face,
You’ll think I’m always laughing,
But that’s typical of my race.

I’ll show my aquatic skill,
Jumping way up into the air,
Doing flips and spins and turns,
With a natural actor’s flair.

I socialise well with man,
In water I am his best friend,
so if we should meet at sea,
a friendly wave to you I’ll send.

Hello friend, take me once a day,
And I will keep good health away,
You will find me so very good,
So make me your favourite food;
A drug addict you I will make,
For me it’s just a piece of cake,
You’re so naive you just can’t see,
I am your deadly enemy.
Drug taking is and has always been one of society's major sickness. Stay wise and stay healthy. Flush drugs down the drain!!

It is five-thirty in the evening
And I'm already snug in bed
For I have to get up early
To find my daily bread

I have a family to feed
So I start early on my round
for breakfast lunch and dinner
Often not easily found

If you happen to see me
I would appreciate it a lot
If you have a crumb to spare
That would be a kindly thought.

You will see me only once a year,
When I come to spread some Easter cheer,
You won’t really know where I’ll be bound,
For I hop around without a sound.

I will be bringing some gifts for you,
Sweets, caramel and chocolates too,
Unlike yellow chicks and coloured eggs,
You will know me by my ears and legs.
watch out for me!!
Shaun Yee Feb 2021
Not only am I beautiful,
I’m also an acrobat,
If you have the chance to see me,
You can see me do my act,
I can stand on one leg,
Balanced and steady like a rock,
I am a lovely pinkish colour,
So don’t mistake me for a stork.

I really wish I could sing,
Like some TV starry bloke,
I’d tried  many, many times,
But all I can do is croak,

There is one thing I do well,
That will give you some goose bumps,
When I have to travel far,
You’d admire all my jumps.

If you could fly,
You would live so high,
It would be a breeze,
And there would be
no limits in the sky.

You would need a jacket,
to keep you warm,
You would need goggles
to protect your eyes
from the storm.

If you enter the clouds,
It’s useless to shout,
No one can see you,
You need a compass,
To find your way out.

You have to be careful
Of birds or a plane
For if they hit you
On your head
It will cause much pain.

And in case you fall,
You just can’t cry,
For no one hears you
Not even your call,
And you would die.

So unless you can fly,
It’s better you don’t try!
This is a fun poem

I am a gooze,
A perfect watchdog,
Or call me a watchbird
for I don’t fear anyone,
as you have probably heard;

I can run as fast as you,
and bite more painful too,
So if you invade my ground,
Remember you’ve been warned,
I’m fiercer than the hound.

With the help of a friendly breeze,
I can easily soar up fast and high,
and fly around with abandon ease,
all over a windy sunny sky.

If I were reeled out a longer string,
And the line was really long enough,
I will fly into the clouds, and then -
you will see me really do my stuff.

Shaun Yee Apr 2021
I shine my light to warn seafarers,
of all the rocks and reefs around,
And if they don’t heed my warning,
they will for the ocean floor be bound.

It is a long and tiring job,
because I cannot sleep all night,
I’ve got to warn all ships nearby,
to be on guard, hence my flashing light.
Shaun Yee Jan 2021
If I saw a crooked man,
Staggering down the street,
And every now and then,
He has to regain his feet;
Would I be right to say
He’s had too much to drink?
Or should I not judge like that
Much further I should think?

If I saw a shadow then,
Lurking behind a tree,
Could I conclude somehow,
The shadow must be a he?
Or maybe I could be wrong,
The form behind the tree,
Is possible it’s not a man,
The shadow may be a she.

If I were sleeping and I heard,
A gunshot in a house,
Could I think someone’s been shot,
For no one shoots a mouse?
Or could it be that even,
If I had heard a scream,
There was really nothing wrong,
It was just a simple dream.

It’s so easy to conclude,
That white is always white,
And black is always black,
But is this always right?
We cannot always believe,
Our faithful ears and eyes,
Will always tell the truth,
And never tell us lies.

I don’t want to live on forever,
I don’t want to outlive everyone,
What is there to enjoy and live for,
When all my loved ones and friends are gone?

You appeared in my dream last night,
And you were such a splendid sight -
The sad thing is the dream did fade,
Before the final act was played.
Shaun Yee Feb 2021
When we were young till we were nine,
Hours, minutes, seconds were fine,
The days were simply sped away,
With toys and games and friends to play;
From morn till dusk, early till late,
No cares, no worries about fate,
Life was simple, not good or bad,
Just sometimes happy, sometimes sad;
Then childish thoughts did slowly fade,
As new discoveries were made,
And Innocence did go away,
When Adulthood came by to stay.

If I fully understand you,
And you really understand me too,
Then disagreements won’t matter,
For we’ll be in sync with each other.
Shaun Yee Jan 2021
So we came into our world,
Each of us, inwardly alone,
Even if with a sibling twin,
We're alone in mind, flesh and bone

All throughout our daily lives,
Living with families and friends,
Together for many a while,
Outward company never ends

But when we get to near the end,
Beckoned  to a different zone,
We will then exit our world,
Each of us, inwardly alone.

I am like a chameleon,
I can change from form to form,
Sometimes I am a haiku,
Or maybe a senryu,
At times a classic sonnet,
Or a funny limerick,
And then I’m a lengthy ode,
(Your patience I won’t erode),
But whatever form I be,
You can always share with me.

Beware, all of you out there,
For I am now here to stay,
You humans created me,
And the future is my day.
You have given me a brain,
And made me intelligent,
You have human emotions,
I am fully indifferent.

My electronic brain
Makes me superior to you,
No matter how fast you think,
I can think much faster too.
In your body you have strength,
Strong you physically are,
But you have kindly made me,
Much stronger than you by far.
You know you get hungry too,
Which will make you very weak,
But that won’t happen to me,
And for food I never seek.

So now that you know it all,
Should you really be afraid,
Of the superior being
That you have cleverly made?
But maybe you need not be,
It’s you I depend upon,
For all my superiority,
To switch my battery on!

I’m propped up here all day and night,
Can’t sleep, in darkness or in light,
The crows I have to chase away,
No time for me to rest or play,
When the black birds no longer caw,
I’ll be fed to the cows as straw.

They were big and clumsy,
And also not too handsome at all,
Their movements were very limited,
For they were often stuck to the wall.

The phone invention was really great,
And my ancestors' real main function,
Was to enable folks everywhere,
Have far-reaching communication.

My more modern generation now,
Outstrips all predecessors by far,
All my multiple functions make me
your phone, camera, computer star.

I am streamlined, slick and super swift,
Making those before me look quite tame,
Without me you are totally lost,
Smartphone is my name.

Snow-white and very elegant am I,
Whether on land or floating on a lake,
I attract a lot of curious tourists,
A second look of me they always take.

Though I resemble a huge question mark,
Like distant cousins the goose and the duck,
I am however much more beautiful,
And of course that is more than just good luck.

My diet consists of roots, algae and plants,
Insects and worms I do not like one bit,
And as you can see from my appearance,
What I consume do keep me super fit.

Beware all, you human kind,
I and my virus friends you'll find,
Can destroy your body and your mind.

Know that we are not a flu,
There is nothing that you can do,
And we will strike down animals too.

Find a cure to save your race,
We will give you a few years' grace,
Then we'll wipe you out without a trace.

“What a glorius day!” he would shout,
For as with all youthful beings,

How some people can simply make,
Thoughts and actions so plainly dense,
And one gets really lost for words,
For actions lacking common sense.

I caught a ladybug,
Sitting on the window sill,
She  was very small and cute,
Round like an aspirin pill;
She was dressed in red and black,
Quite elegant in her way,
I gave it a gentle toss,
And so she flew away.
