It is a blend of here and there,
Nowhere and everywhere,
People, events and places,
A merger of familiar and strange faces,
A world distinct from the one we're in,
No heaven or hell, purity or sin,
Facts are distorted into fantasy,
A combination of myth and reality,
Where death does not exist,
A surreal kind of life will persist,
And the dream world will then be gone,
When we wake from sleep at dawn.

A dozen dull things he has to do
A dozen dull decisions he has to make
A dozen dull hours are all he has
For the dull actions he has to take

That is his daily dull routine
Working from nine to five
A dozen dull months each year
That is the dull story of his life

Now he is just weary of it all
And he deeply yearns to find a way
To climb out from the timeless trap
To free himself from dullness one fine day

"I first!" is becoming a frequent cry
From the moment we learnt to first love "I"

The self concept though basically sound
When overused, selfishness will abound

Egoism extreme comes to the fore
And consideration is shown the door

If we let this state of mind to persist
Others' well-being will cease to exist

So be aware of other feelings too
Then "I" will be wiser on what to do
we should stay with you and I and not I and you

If you have some free time,
You can come with me,
I’ll take you to a tiny glen,
Behind an aging tree.

We will follow a stream,
Hidden in a valley,
And we can find the little men,
If we are really lucky.

‘Tis said they don’t exist,
That it’s a fairy tale,
But I have really seen them,
They are fast and small and pale.

So when the time is right,
You can come with me,
And we will go to Elfin land,
Behind an aging tree.
I have a love for elves, fairies, witches , and all things mystic  !!

The end may come one dismal day
Before we can have the final say
It make take us by surprise
Even before the next sunrise
We must accept that life will end
Make all preparations beforehand
So we can greet each new dawn
When all our worries are gone

With billions of people on this land,
Each person is but a grain of sand;

* So alone he lingers sadly on,
With memories too dreadful to bear,
Alone she suffers with wretched thoughts,
No one her burden to really share *

Impotence surrounds, scarce are true friends,
Relief is really found when life ends.

Listen to singing birds in trees,
And chirping crickets in the night,
Follow the flitting fireflies
flirting their lanterns burning bright.

Dance with the dancing butterfly,
Bond with the buzzing bumblebee,
Sing together with the seagulls
screaming shrilly over the sea.

Be charmed by rainbows in the sky,
And brilliant bluebells that you see,
Enjoy those refreshing raindrops,
Nature is here for you and me.

Go through each day with sparrow’s eyes,
Which can see a crumb from afar,
Look for crystals in waterfalls,
See the wonder of night time’s star.

Catch the rainbows in soap bubbles,
Hear music in chattering streams,
Enjoy the sound of falling rain,
Marvel each evening’s sunlight beams.

Inhale the fragrance of flowers,
Share all moments of joy and pain,
Live your life each minute fully,
For you will not be here again.

We are only drops of water,
In an endless and mighty sea,
So we shouldn’t think ourselves,
To be greater than he or she.

In a vast and endless desert,
We’re only tiny grains of sand,
So we better know for always,
We are all equal in this land.
Shaun Yee Dec 2022
I do not feel superior to you
So you shouldn’t feel superior to me
I don’t feel inferior to you
So you shouldn’t feel inferior to me
I always feel the same for everyone
It’s nice if everyone feels the same as me

Deleting errors is something we can do,
If we will have the patience to see things through,
For often thinking and doing things offhand,
Will throw us headfirst into disaster land,
So better to plan for all that we construct,
Then moods will remain happy and not corrupt.
it is impossible never to make errors, but they can be kept to a minimum

It's always so very, very easy,
All the flaws in others, for us to see;
When we look for flaws, they will always show,
Everywhere we look, we can see them grow;
Our own flaws though, we are  often blind,
Yet they are always there, for us to find;
So criticism, we should keep in line,
For everyone has flaws like yours and mine
No one is perfect
Shaun Yee Mar 2022
We often expect others
to do as we do,
and think as we think,
so we can be comfortable;
But are our expectations real?

Do we expect a lot from others
in the way they think,
in the way they perform,
while we ourselves are slacking
in performances and thoughts?

Just as we expect from others,
They also expect from us;
So let us not hasten
to seek perfection in others,
so we can be comfortable.

Eyes are the doorway into the mind,
Study well the eyes and you will find,
Flash lights of truths or shadows of lies,
Smiles of laughter and teardrops of cries.

They come to visit us,
In the early hours before dawn,
If you want to see them,
Look for them in the lawn,
By the dew-covered plants,
And flowers if there be,
Fairies are fragile beauties,
And are not so easy to see;

Most fairies are feminine,
Though male ones do exist,
But they are usually hidden,
In the early morning mist,
And if by chance a fairy,
Should happen to come your way,
You can rest assured,
It will be your lucky day.

The fairies hold their annual dance,
On the fourteenth month of the year,
This is not on your calendar,
You won’t know if it’s far or near.
The fairies’ world is next to us,
Invisible, unseen, unheard,
Their celebrations are all there,
But humans will not be disturbed.

Blue and white bird you cannot fly
Unlike the birds up in the sky
Half your life is in salted sea
And half your life on land so free
Fearless you are being so small
For you stand only one foot tall

Living in rainbow lands,
Where time is not counted
by glassy hourly sands;
Life is constantly filled,

Throughout the days and nights

This world we live in can be cold,
Heartless and selfish to young and old,
We should, to keep our sanity,
Sometimes indulge in fantasy.

In a small glass bowl with rainbow hues,
Stands a tiny tree with leaves of jade,
And a golden flame atop does burn,
While some silver stars below parade.
It's a bowl of art and fantasy,
Not on sale in any worldly shop,
It may be found in Gnome's Gallery,
Where the elves and goblins often stop.

In Fantasyland where Elves and Fairies dwell,
The Good Witch once did cast her Magic Spell,
To shield the Little Folks from human eyes,
Human presence warned by the blue owl's cries;
A gentle mystic mist surrounds the land,
And time is kept by chiming bells at hand,
Rainbow-walks and bright-lit amber lanterns,
Flowered gardens amidst crystal fountains,
With Nature's sounds and music ever there,
Beauty can be found almost everywhere;
To find the place first find the Wishing Well,
Then you can find where Elves and Fairies dwell.

When the sun no longer shines,
And the moon has gone away,
The stars have left the sky,
And darkness rules the day;
I hope that you can come,
To me before I die,
I will kiss you one last time,
Before I say goodbye.

Out from the trees he came in sight,
Weaving lightly and blinking bright,
I watched it drawing ever near,
A tiny phantom of the night,
And the thought wandered in my mind,
With its tiny lantern did it find,
Whatever it was searching for,
Before it joined its ghostly kind?

I was in the midst of doing something,
When I heard the phone in the room ringing,
So I stopped my work to answer the call,
And when I went back I couldn’t recall,
Whatever it was I had been doing.

I had gone to the post office to send,
A mail that I had written to a friend,
But when I reached to take out the letter,
I realised it was  left in my sweater,
Which I’d given to the tailor to mend.

So these are just two incidents needing
Attention like a garden needs weeding,
Because when we get more advanced in age,
It gets easier to forget the page,
Of the what-was-it that we were reading.

Forgetting things often can be so sad,
And with ourselves we really get mad.

It is four in an autumn morning,
I sit in the dark by the window,
Just watching the sleeping world below.

Nearby high-rise flats stand tall and black,
A few corridor lights bristling bright,
Do the trees and bushes sleep at night?

A soothing silence does scent the air,
The lamp-lit roads all quiet and bare,
I'm really happy to sit and stare.

I know for myself just what I need,
Are ten minutes of quiet and peace,
And then my mind will be back at ease.

Appearances in places of worship,
When thoughts and behavior differ in mind,
Recital of prayers are meaningless,
The deaf will easily befriend the blind.
There are correct ways to live humanely,
To live peacefully and avoid envy,
Practise simple philosophies of life,
Nurture understanding and empathy.

The throaty croaks of the after-rain frogs,
Hidden in the damp dark garden,
Calling and answering one to other,
While a few creatures silently listen,
The water drops linger on dampened leaves,
And the night crickets add their say,
In some fireflies' lights they glisten,
A finishing touch after a rainy day.

Some nights the degrees dropped below zero,
Heavy snow rained down to the ground below,
Covering homeless tramps bundled and old
On sidewalks shivering with freezing cold

Some luckless beggars sleep on parks' benches,
Forever trapped by penniless fences,
A handful few will not survive till dawn
Not even when the final ice is gone
Note: in Europe every year, some poor homeless outdoor tramps die in winter from the freezing cold - very sad

Little Monkey thoughtfully asked,
"Does God really exist?"

Old Monkey casually replied,
"I don't think so"

Little Monkey perplexedly said,
"Then why do humans pray to Him?"

Old Monkey thoughtfully replied,

"God was really made by early man,
Surely not the other way around,
For mankind needs a super presence,
To maintain a healthy lifestyle sound;

Evil is not made by the devil,
Truly he does not exist at all,
All horrors have always been man-made,
And unchecked will lead to man's downfall;

So man had wisely created God,
With promise of heaven to attain,
For without the threat of punishment,
Evil in this world will spread like rain!"

Then Little Monkey nodded happily,
and continued eating his banana.

Golden ships on oceans sail
Laden with riches of ill-gotten gains
Beyond the reach of suffering slaves
Poverty stricken in their mother lands

With no hope for advancement
Fleeced of dignity and pride
By worldly statesmen and warlords
Without an iota of shame to hide

Civilisation is impotent
To interfere with world affairs
So these golden ships sail on
With their looted wares

I am trapped in a bowl of glass,
Waiting for days and nights to pass,
Water is not really enough,
My daily life is truly tough,
I can only swim up and down,
Or sideways like a little clown,
Doomed to stay in this bowl am I,
Freedom is only when I die

So many worldly millionaires,
More cars and yachts they have to buy,
Their moral ties they sacrifice,
Are not truly happy when they die.

They chase after material things,
Many follow a lifestyle wild,
To have real happiness in life,
Take the example from the child.

He’s not corrupted with money,
He’s happy with a little toy,
He doesn’t need expensive things,
His simplicity brings him joy,

We should live with what we really need,
And just forget about our greed.
Greediness is the downfall of many

I am lost,
and more than that,
I have lost everything

I was caught
that morning when I was out
hunting for food nearby
to bring back to my family

I can still hear them cry

I was trapped
with other birds
and transported
to a distant land
and locked up in a cage

with some water and some sand

I am watered and I am fed
but I don't belong here
for my heart is in constant pain
knowing I will never see
never be
with my family again

please just let me go home
