I’m smart
The kind of smart that shows up on tests.
Not the kind of smart that knows not to kiss unavailable boys
Not the kind that tells me to maybe not comment that
Not the kind that tells me to make myself happy
I’m smart
But not in the ways that count

I’m smart
So my parents have high expectations
Not just for school
For everything
I’m smart
So I have to be responsible
I have to know better
I can never sin.

I’m smart
So I can’t complain
“Everything comes easy to me”
So it’s really not that impressive.
I’m smart
But "I never actually try"

I’m not smart enough to guard my heart
I’m not smart enough to take care of myself
I’m not smart enough to say no
I’m not smart enough to save my money
I’m not smart enough to avoid temptation
I’m not smart enough to like guys who are actually available.

But hey.
I scored high on my SAT’s
So yeah
I’m smart.
