When the Himalayan peasant meets the he-bear in his pride,
He shouts to scare the monster, who will often turn aside.
But the she-bear thus accosted rends the peasant tooth and nail.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

When Nag the basking cobra hears the careless foot of man,
He will sometimes wriggle sideways and avoid it if he can.
But his mate makes no such motion where she camps beside the trail.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

When the early Jesuit fathers preached to Hurons and Choctaws,
They prayed to be delivered from the vengeance of the squaws.
’Twas the women, not the warriors, turned those stark enthusiasts pale.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Man’s timid heart is bursting with the things he must not say,
For the Woman that God gave him isn’t his to give away;
But when hunter meets with husband, each confirms the other’s tale—
The female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Man, a bear in most relations-worm and savage otherwise,—
Man propounds negotiations, Man accepts the compromise.
Very rarely will he squarely push the logic of a fact
To its ultimate conclusion in unmitigated act.

Fear, or foolishness, impels him, ere he lay the wicked low,
To concede some form of trial even to his fiercest foe.
Mirth obscene diverts his anger—Doubt and Pity oft perplex
Him in dealing with an issue— to the scandal of The ***!

But the Woman that God gave him, every fibre of her frame
Proves her launched for one sole issue, armed and engined for the same;
And to serve that single issue, lest the generations fail,
The female of the species must be deadlier than the male.

She who faces Death by torture for each life beneath her breast
May not deal in doubt or pity—must not swerve for fact or jest.
These be purely male diversions—not in these her honour dwells.
She the Other Law we live by, is that Law and nothing else.

She can bring no more to living than the powers that make her great
As the Mother of the Infant and the Mistress of the Mate.
And when Babe and Man are lacking and she strides unclaimed to claim
Her right as femme (and baron), her equipment is the same.

She is wedded to convictions—in default of grosser ties;
Her contentions are her children, Heaven help him who denies!—
He will meet no suave discussion, but the instant, white-hot, wild,
Wakened female of the species warring as for spouse and child.

Unprovoked and awful charges— even so the she-bear fights,
Speech that drips, corrodes, and poisons—even so the cobra bites,
Scientific vivisection of one nerve till it is raw
And the victim writhes in anguish—like the Jesuit with the squaw!

So it cames that Man, the coward, when he gathers to confer
With his fellow-braves in council, dare not leave a place for her
Where, at war with Life and Conscience, he uplifts his erring hands
To some God of Abstract Justice—which no woman understands.

And Man knows it! Knows, moreover, that the Woman that God gave him
Must command but may not govern—shall enthral but not enslave him.
And She knows, because She warns him, and Her instincts never fail,
That the Female of Her Species is more deadly than the Male.
What is a heart
But a thing to be broken
A place to hold thoughts
That are never spoken

An annoyance, a nuisance
It makes you blind
It fights for control
Over a logical mind

So I close off my feelings
To hide from hurt
I become quiet, soft-spoken
A lonely introvert

Her heart was made of beating wings
Of tides and winds and churning things

So much she'd take, but give nothing back
If you fall for her, you are surely trapped

She yearns for love, an unknown thirst
But to have none, this girl is cursed

A heart of gold could not hers win
For something's missing from within

She sees them all, through and through
Men and knights, boys and fools

A single glance is all it took
Seduced by her with just one look

They pine for her, heart and hand
And fleetingly, she felt something grand

But in such short time, it's all gone
Left in one-way love while she looks on

Unsatisfied, she wants that feeling too
And so one by one, he suitors she slew

And every one, she swallowed their heart
When feelings of love didn't last past dark

Trying to hold what they felt for her
Instead it became a lover's slaughter

She waits and waits for the one to come
The one to set this spell undone

She's ever patient, waiting for such a day
That true love will keep dark magic at bay

And finally she can come to know
The spark of love, and watch it grow

But time is the longest road to walk
She fears death before her hearts unlocked

Yet still she keeps that promise alive
Through it all, her hope survives

For one to appear, noble and true
To whom she can honestly say, I love you
You browse the cuts of meat while
you wait for the barkeep to see that
you're waiting.
I noticed you long before
your dark eyes reached mine.
Your enticing smile,
your ****, arrogant strut.
"Can I buy you a drink?"

I feel blood rush to my cheeks.

I don't want to be
the sandwich
you'll eat
half of
then toss away.

I flash a smile.
"No thanks."
You're not bothered.
You move on to the next
deli case in search of
other options.

I exchange glances with
another good looking man.
"Hi! Can I buy you a drink?"

Don't you have anything original to say?

I gesture to my full bottle.
Just a revolving door
of shallow small talk;
lonely men and women
looking for
something--
anything--

My friend returns from the ladies' room
and yanks me from my bitter cloud.
We snap our fingers under
the strobe lights in a sea of
empty.

I was always moving from place to place
there were new faces and empty houses
leaving before we got too comfortable
in one place, we always had each other though
so there was never any need for a
                                                        real home.

My sisters and I would climb mountains
stealing pomegranates from our teacher’s yard
and sitting on the dusty rocks
everything was good because we were on
                                                                                                                 top of the
                                                                                                      world

In every new neighborhood I would see
all the girls and boys in different groups
they found it strange that I would wrestle
instead of play with dolls
and that’s what we did; we wrestled until
black eyes were handed out like
sweet
candy.
No matter where we were we always
made our way to grandma’s house for Christmas
keeping traditions and breathing in that loving
air, I wanted the world to stop and wait
they always sang out for God while I whispered
                                                                                                                                                       where are
                                                                                                                                                                       you?

The swings were my friends when I
was in school and I would spend a lifetime
on them, looking at the sky as if I could
just fly away and never come back
in those days I was a dreamer because I saw that
a world was contained
           on those swings.

I guess you could say writing found me
these smudge-filled hands still ink stained
and the words spilling out on the paper
turning shaky abc’s into emotions with
names and colors and witty come-backs
because nothing else sounds and feels
                                                                                   quite as
                                                                                          good.
Oh my,
I
could hold you

Safe
in heavy arms,
against my strong
chest pressed with aroma;

and there you could press gentle lips,
show me weakness
and strength
in myself.

Oh my
what I
would trade to hold you
would never let me hold you as I can.
I’m always hearing music
so I must be listening too close
Seeking answers in the lyrics
Adhering to every word spoke

It’s said that insanity is surely defined
Doing the same thing over and over again
I always find myself wanting to go back
and again, I find the means to an end

If I tried to run away
there would be a repeated proof
The asylum is ineludible
and I’m clearly crazy for you

Trying every method to remove
what the conductor put in me
Binding strings of a puppet master
inspired to play this symphony

The end of days may not come soon
but someday, in that palace of the sky
I’ll look in the directory
for the one with celestial eyes

I’ll ask for only five minutes
I’ll try to explain in the short time
All I was never able to find words for
in the world of yours and mine

Love for only giving, could have been
but, was too often unforgiving
Broken hearts simply tried to survive
but, life without you was not living

There was no peace where there was pride
and I’m not looking for alibies
But always found myself asking why
even apart, your happiness was mine

We promised it’s unconditional
but didn’t survive dark times
Silence as our backs turned
to conceal the cries

Two things I’m sure I surely knew for sure
as I waited for a shooting star in the sky
What I gave to you is always yours
Till the end of time, this love abides

I need you. You fit with me, you hold me and i am complete. the smell of you is always familiar. i fight with my mother and it never bothers you. you are just like my best friend you forgive me and i forgive and forget because you just mean that much. music? the same or you will listen to my music, good music. Where are you? It's 2oclock in the morning and i'm not tired, neither are you. were standing outside in the freezing cold, you are fine just standing there with me splitting a cigarette and laughing. i care too much but so do you, so you tell me you will love me forever? i know you mean it because i know that look in your eyes. you are perfect but to you, so am i. you're not scared; not to say anything and not to show it. you want me and i want you. you are the love of my life, i just haven't found you yet. i hope i do soon, and i know you do too. I love you.

Lily
She strives for the picture in her mind
of that inimitable girl she can't define.
She runs through life trying to stay on track
guarded, but craving a pat on the back.
She dreams out how she wants scenarios to go
and is fine ending up watching a different show.
She clings to the people she holds most dear
even the ones that are not so near.
She condemns herself when mistakes abound
instead of just saying, "it's too late now"...
