I've been labeled a freak , a hippy an a
"hayseed"
A guitar picker , a second hand musician , a free
spirit in torn blue jeans
Neurotic , dangerous even stoic
A 'stoner' , a drug fueled guinea pig ,
a soldier and a poet
A 'touched' brother and family member
Father , grandfather , anxious , lost , -
melancholy , ****** up an destined to be unremarkably
remembered
I've worn suits , coveralls , overalls -
uniforms and battle scars
Attended a hardline baptist church , ridiculed religious
organization , studied buddhism plus
everything in between in pursuit of -
my famished spirit
Temporarily snared in wrinkled flesh
Always wondering what lies next*....

Good evening Sir Brown Bat ..
Brother , I'm in tune with your flight -
path
Like a whirling dervish unsure -
where to be
Going in circles from tree to tree
Shunned by your peers
Awkward in the light
On a desperate search for -
sustenance
Night after night* ..

Gravel roads suffer when they're paved
The character of a dirt byway is violently stripped away
A slow drive cutting through the brush with songbirds
to either side , a few precious moments with the woodland
fauna on a scenic ride
Old roads in Hill Country are becoming a thing of the past
Tis a shame that these old trails won't last* ...

A bluebird's in the sourwood
The clouds are burning fast
When a bluebird's in the sourwood
The snow will surely pass* ...

Gray day rooster
Alert and noble
Perched on a chestnut
Calling his flock to order ...

Ramblin' ole mule , braying in -
the briars
Grazing in the smoke of the -
new morning fire ...

Curious Mister Billy , tromping through the fodder
His cowbell echoes in the dew kissed holler* ...
