She saw love
A false shadow
A glimmering reflection
Rippling in the pond
Aphrodite’s arrows
Flying ten times faster than sparrows
Through narrow vessels
Of flowing blood
Heated expressions
Beating breath and perspiration
Matching feet for destination
Fated end to mend the broken spirit
Clear the essence of those who fear it
She chose the illusion
For the alternative was agony
And she could no longer bare it
