Dec 2014
there is a big storm
to the south east of our township
the thunder is rolling
across the skies like a loud whip

as it nears the lightning
appears in repeated sheets
they have much voltage
within their bright cleats

soon the clouds shall send down
a wetting irrigation
to fill the gullies and rivers
with needed precipitation

intensity builds in the thunder
as the minutes tick by
of its resounding
there's a strengthening ply

first drops now fall upon
the corrugated tin roof
they are pelting down
with a solid volume of proof

such a grouse sound
to the ear is the rain
for we've had little of it
around our town's terrain

this patch of earth shall be
so fresh in the dawn
after the drenching
the night skies did spawn
