Best friends
(Well, until the end)

One I could trust
You listened
We laughed
We cried
It didn't matter; just together

Friendship to rust
We fought
You yelled
I stepped back
And felt light as a feather

Every time
I'd come back;
You were my
Only true friend
I shouldn't let you go

If I had a dime
For every sharp
Word we'd thrown
I'd be rich
Worth it? No

Then you disappeared
I was
suddenly free
But alone
Me, isolated

I changed and feared,
Made different
Friends
Who helped me
But it was fated

You came back
I was
Thrilled-
Time erases pain
Through and through

You tried to fill in your tracks
Left behind
But other friends
Were already there
No space for you

Best friends
(Well, until the end)
