Trees' leaves flutter,
Introducing the wind
Turning themselves over,
Tipping up their skirts

A face from an attic
It's windows dusty, old
Paint peeling from frames
Stares down, understanding

She doesn't want the turn
It'll bring all the dirt, memories
A whirlwind of slapping, pain
Brambles begin to break from plants

A shutter bangs, greyed
With time, all things grow old
Too many storms, like this; coming
The screen door slams, it's soon

A cemetery, just in sight
Crosses bear the sins, momentos
A history of forgotten choices
Blowing on the wind, from the past

There's there is the weather
Rippling across the long grass
Footsteps coming up the stairs
Like hammers, echoing on a pond

She wipes the window
A little circle, just a finger
Cutting the smallest hole
In a mirror, to another world

Eventually, soon, she'll step through
Another world, another time
Lost in a book, jumping from a ledge
Driving imagination, far and well

A tree bends, not hard
But enough to break
The limb falls, she knows
It's her fault, far above

Another step, now she hears
The blowing speaks, whistling
Through cracks, through walls
It's pitch raises, as does the voice

A breadth of tears bring twilight
A cold, solid hand, steady
Fear brings pain, not sins, for might
It's reflection fades through

Across the way, deep in the storm
Up in a tree, equal in height
Having escaped, broken fast
That little attic hole

The girl, looks back
At the storm, her parent's grasp
Then to the distance, calling
A harmony beckons

It's a choice, she knows
And remembers the crosses
Possible regrets, hurricanes
She remembers the hand

Then the house, leaky roof
***** windows, don't view out
Clean the inside, outside rot
And the storm buffets it's sides

She is taught the storm
It never fails, never stops
Always to be feared
Look down, feel shame

The forest is driven
The wind cuts through it
Breaking, bending, throwing
Thorns, splinters like bullets

She feels the wind
Tastes the excitement in the night
Looking back at herself, back
Hoping that window breaks

Her she jumps, shirt catches air
Billows out, blows behind
Jumps, feet leave the safety
The tree teaches her to fly

The hand comes down
The voice cracks the glass
Monster brings pain once more
Out of the closet, it comes

From the branch, the jump, a leap
From the attic never a plea, or cry
The wind she was taught to fear
Catches her, teaches flight

Slowly, despite fears
Lowly eyes begin to rise
Bent head begin to rise
Looks from ground to eyes

In the air, focused
Before more pain
These bright eyes
Now surprise
