This is about a dream
where we sing in bookstores
and coffee houses
thick with swirls of cigarette smoke

maybe we're laying on blankets
on a moonless rooftop night
I'm watching fireworks
exploding in your eyes

with you there beside me
your warmth keeps me whole
as we dig through old photographs

I let you laugh
at how chubby I used to be
it's unusual

you walked in from the cold
and your nurturing smile
makes me feel safe.
