I feel like a dog

Beaten for returning
Yelled for running off
Dragged along on a leash
Of promises never made

I feel like a child

Chastised for squealing
Laughter too loud
Running too fast
And not falling down

I feel like a book

Left face down
Pages wrinkled, spine flattening
Half way through what was once
