On wind torn cliffs
they hop and bound
these bright beaked birds
diminutive sweet clowns

They are prey to many a Gull
skewers do take them on wing petrol
cute and gentle they look to me
yet never to small fish of the salt seas

See them plunder the shallows
then rise from water cold and blue
watch them in their cubersome wonder
flying and flapping like humming birds
