Pebbles are the ocean’s stars
Little treasures from her home
The tide rolls in like a child’s palm
And hands us these small stones

They’re smooth and dull and small
And not at all celestial
But stars cannot be skipped or held
And stones are just as special

They don’t glimmer like the stars
And they won’t grant your wishes
But they roll in in multitudes
Like a thousand ocean kisses

And just like the bright stars
Look watchful from above you
The ocean gives us pebbles
As a way to say “I love you”
For Mom <3
