I have got this rebel heart
That rebels against the one I love
You'd think I'd try and do what's right
But find that it's a constant fight

I know who's loving hand to hold
But always try to go solo
Running thin in the thick of things
By all accounts, by any means

This rebel heart from the start
Has tried its best to pull apart
Rears its head time and again
Barking back at Gods plans

Knows what's right in the eyes of God
Jumps at the chance to do the opposite
Quick to quote both line and verse
Yet still can steer itself off course

Born into war, this rebel heart
Years of callused battle scars
With talk of surrender along the way
The temptation of sin keeps it in the game

In the moment of truth knows what to do
But in the time of lies does what it wants to
In this heavy handed tug of war
Daily living with this rebel heart
