HER FIRST CAMPING TRIP


somewhere an owl
gave a hoot
then another


somewhere else a dog
far away barked once
barked twice


a darkness so
dark one could
cut it with a knife


the pop up tent
our only refuge
from this night


it just about
fitted into
the living room


squeezing the telly
into a corner
the **** pile silencing our footsteps

it was her idea
to camp
in the great inside


"Tomorrow we could
try the end of the garden?"
I dared to suggest


"No way!" she was
adamant with all
the authority of a 3 year old


"This is far more
exciting!" and by God
it was
