How polite we were when the air wasn't so polluted
or when the roads weren't so congested and the rivers
didn't have to be tested every day for cancer-causing
chemicals.

Even as Aesop was writing his fables
time was already turning the tables.

No room for Battenburg cake
no rooms for the homeless
and what do we take from that?

Politicians promise but seldom deliver.
