runnels of tree limbs

shadow their coming sun--

as a scaling glass bird leaves

its span of wings across a

single limb.

an autonomous splintering

grabs hold.

a precise scar left to taking

rest.

an entire forest made to make

June leaves abruptly part

fingers.

the camouflage of a well-worn

marble notebook.
