If I was broken
my pieces would fight me
and demand at once, a new owner

If I do not hear the clarion
my ears will scream like banshees
and haughtily remind me only the deaf do not hear

If I do not know me
my heart and soul will rage and choke me
they will strip off their stars, braids and epaulets
and tell me to go sit with men who envy and hate in caves

If I forget my smile it will not forget me
and in God's Grace and Providence it holds me
and intones reverently

The best and most beautiful things in the world
cannot be seen or even touched
- they must be felt with the heart-
and
you without a shadow of doubt
- have the biggest heart -
that is for the knowing
