This then
is all
we have now

the fire
of the past
has burnt
itself out
and what's left
is but ashes
on the dismal ground

I know
it was not meant
to be
that I accepted
as destiny

please, I implore
do not ask me
what went before

love's last chapter
had been written
read, amended
re-read- almost
every single word
remembered

remembered
not for joy
nor for gain
but for pain

all that
shall be
is mist
blemished memory
