One called alarmingly
and they all came
descending like vultures
encircling their prey

with razor sharp claws
sunk deep, purposely
into my open flesh
together, feasting one by one

my eyes quickly fainting
but theirs brazenly alert
grazing the fields of my soul
and my sleeping body

It tormented me to see
the pleasure they took preying
So I cried in agony
and prayed my eyes shut

my eyes open with tears
as I lay drowsy near death's bed
with a scent the feast left over
and soft petals beside my head
