Humans are designed to respond While among the many and the frogs We suddenly became capable of song A long time ago when There really was not much To say about the earth There was only a pond And while inside that wetness We held our breath Under water for far too long Though we never drowned We became the ground And our souls were like a drop of rain Now we hesitate to define Our true place in the universe Perhaps we are only a transient state Of chaos and grace intermingling As our words belonged To another category of order We are still in this all together And there is nothing That can change our attitude
