The space between here and there,
the no man's land of anywhere different,

any spare change Guv'nor?
which we mostly ignore,

fearing the wolves at the door
we lock ourselves in and
close the curtains
only then are we certain
we're safe,

but like
in so many dreams
when everything seems
tickety boo,
I know and so do you
that
it's only a stone's throw
to skid row.
