The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Roberta Flack

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command my love

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love

The first time ever I saw your face
Your face, your face
Heard a recording of this song yesterday on WFUV Fordham 90.7 FM and was touched by the music of her voice and especially that magical second verse.   I have laid out her lyrics here like a sonnet
