There are some sins
that feel like
a constant burning,
shame so deep
your stomach turning
becomes a relief.

Good grief,
I am glad
that isn't me.
I may not be
perfectly at ease
but my shame
doesn't torture me
all consumingly.

It just buzzes in
the background
discreetly
like a handful
of lost honey bees.
