These are scars
unseen
inflicted
on the psyche
time has no say
the pain
does not go away

it were better
had an arrow struck
the sorrwful heart
as death
would leave no trace
it does not tear apart

the strongest
even the bravest
are over-powered
human will is
at a standstill
the affliction
is stubborn
it won't depart

but like an endless dirge
sings over the darkest
cavern of time and memory
such are moments starkest

the bleeding does not stop
the voice fails and breaks
the albatross encircles
the farthest edges of the mind
amidst its hidden murky waters
death would be a blessing
it would be lighter than
such recurring and timeless aches.
after T.S Eliot and Emily Dickinson
