another lady in a bad situation
like he hadn't been seein' plenty of them lately
wasn't her fault, she was no angel either
what's a cowboy to do when a lady says
"hey, mister, please take me outta here"

and then she looked right into
his soul and she sighed

"I know you won't, but I gotta beg you:
please, take me with you"

for him, no leaving a lady like that
on such a dangerous night
full moon sailing and setting fast
her eyes were reflecting nothing
at all

so he tied her limp body to his saddle,
her bruises, and her broken arm in a
sad excuse for a cast

a beautiful lonesome dove
he thought it would only be
one night's ride to a big city

he figured he would
be back on the move again
but beware, my friends, the moon
has ideas of her very own

she is a witch, goddess, planet
beyond reckoning

riding out on these plains
as you will, you are stricken
beloved, entranced,

enchanted

but you can still ride on and call out your name
whenever you feel yourself in danger

hope that it makes you feel
safe then, call out another
beloved name into the echo
desert highway echo is listening

waiting to embrace you
