you meet a girl
you mistake her flames
for a light to guide the way
you think the warmth
is a comforting welcome
but every time you try and
soothe your cold broken hands on her warm heart
you come back with burn marks
you meet a girl
you mistake her bitter words
for a lullaby to help you sleep
they play over and over in your dreams
like a broken record of all the times you asked her to stay
