Her smile was sweet
Innocent and kind
It caught his eye
More than once

But regardless
Of all his rationalizing
He knew he loved her
And it could be no one else

His heart suffered
Every day he didn't talk to her
Just hearing her sweet voice
Was enough to make his day

And she knew it

Every day that he watched
Longingly pining for her
She put on her best show
In front of someone else

She smiled
Not sweetly or innocently
But treacherously
Because she cared for no one

At least not anymore
The attention of others
Is the only thing
That brings her solace
