If only you had held me...
If only you had held me close,
then I wouldn't feel the pain;
but then, you seldom hold me,
so I'm left with little gain.
If only you had smiled for me,
for something I did right;
in place of empty arms,
through long and lonely nights.
If only you had held my hand,
when I sensed danger near;
when I faced the coming day,
of a senseless, unknown fear.
If only you had given love,
in the quiet of an evening;
if you'd only turned to look,
to see that I was grieving.
If only you had held me tight,
when feet beneath me swayed;
if you'd only paid attention,
why then...I may have stayed.
