When you said I looked sad today
I stood in front of a mirror
Analysing my expression
And what gave me away

Was it my downcast eyes
Or the droop in a fighting frown
Perhaps my slumping shoulders
Maybe it was my betraying tongue that stilled at the wrong time

I practised looking happy
Put a hop in my step
A tinkering in my laugh
Hooked the corners of my lips to my ears

I stared at my new reflection
Full coverage makeup
Yet I still couldn't put a twinkl in my eye
I couldn't decieve myself
