Nothing was ever easy
For her reluctant heart
Eyes ever scanning the horizon
Heart ever guarded
Reticent desire
Always looking for an exit strategy
Always seeing the same old patterns
Passion and betrayal
Lust and loss of interest
Why bother even trying
Lovers discarded
As fast as they were acquired
Waning desire intermingled
With boredom and guilt
