Some kind of monster
With a beautiful soul

The only light he sees
Harbor shadows of pitchforks
And unruly mobs chanting

"Leave
Now,
We Don't Want Your Love"

And his days spent in solitude
Without a home
A place he can be
A place to belong

Some kind of monster
With a loving heart

But the appearance of a beast
Fanged and horned and rotten
With heavy breathing and gnarled fingers

"Leave
Now,
We don't want your love"

Some kind of monster
That's beautiful yet terrifying and ugly
And unable to control

Some kind of monster
With a beautiful soul

Who couldn't tell you
The last time
He smiled
