My eyes
My eyes
are the shade of awkward
the shy smile of summer silence
that billow and snap with the wind
and flap like the white of open sails
across a hopeless depth of winter sea,
the color of nautical moss
Waves pretend they love me with bold
demonstration to drive a worn wedge
between a rock and a hard place
where my eyes shone in the sway
of compass depths in coral greens,
colorless, without the caress of sun.
