You told me you weren't ready for a relationship
I sighed and smiled
Said it was "okay, you're fine, darling."
I heard you laugh lightly, mutter something about being hurt
Expanse of silence followed by a few more sighs
A handful of whispers
A gathering of exhales
And then we moved on in conversation
You talked about drumming
And I laughed
Stared at the ceiling and thought about you
Missed you
Even though you were technically a phone line away from me
I remember speaking
But I don't remember what I said
Maybe I said you were a boy I could love
