Chivalry
I
Hospital chlorine, splash of lavendar
mix with baby powder as she guards her newborn.
His fingers brush the fur on her collar,
while he helps her with the car door.
Wisps of spring
breeze through her auburn hair.
He captures her grace
soft as a red fox.
II
Shorter steps carry them
to and from their Taurus.
Hand-me-down walkers and bassinets
feel the weight of their grandchildren.
Welcome Guests
stitched in black and red
greets overnighters in the nursery.
Seventy years old in her black shawl,
his hand cups her elbow, "Steady dear, steady."
