A dark shape
dauntingly blows around
as I lie in a fetal position
watching the smoke
from a once raging fire long spent
reaching for the sky

One lone ember barely glowing
remains, gasping for oxygen,
fading by the second
until it is nothing more
than a bit of ash
scattered easily by the wind

I was that fire
once raging
and the ember my heart,
now merely a dark shape
dauntingly blowing around
what used to be me
