red brick buildings
twenty units wide
every apartment
has something to hide

down the hall in unit 8
she hides under her bed
daddy's been drinking
he wants his sickness fed

across the hall, unit 9
the kids are all alone
they learn about life
on mommy's smartphone

up in apartment 3
six days he's been awake
he spends his time
making shake and bake

empty doorways
twenty units wide
so many secrets
twenty units hide
