Apocalypse
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
There was nothing left
...
therefore she hungered
she spent ages looking for signs
she tested
and discarded
dead symbols
and remained hungry

...
she fed on language
letters filled her starved mind
relieved her soul
while her structures
fell apart

You see her there

Right in the middle
Between innocent youth
And tired old age
The redhead
The harlot

Open
Welcoming
Eternal

You see your fantasies
In her mysterious gaze
Your carnal longings
In the fire of her hair

Open
Alluring
Mature

You see her confidence
In her ***
Her experience
Her empowerment

Open
Provocative
Determined

You see what she'll do
To you
You see her
Touching
Lustfully luring you in

You see her
The redhead
The harlot
Your mistress
She is there
In the middle
Between youth
And old age
Always

I am her

I am here

I am eternal

Birthday (Haiku)
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
seven years ago
seven o seven a.m.
my life turned around
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
It all begins
With pronouns
I becomes the subject
Of my project
Adding you
And collectively we
I choose you and me
And I exclude the he and the she
Until I am certain of we

You and I pick verbs
actions

Inflect them to match
fit
begin narratives

Transitive verbs take objects

You touch
tickle
tease
taste
take skin
*******
lips
me with words

Words have become a clause
But still a simple construction
So, you tickle me where?

For this you need a preposition
To position your tickling ammunition
Do you touch
tickle
tease me ON my *******
*******
thighs
buttocks
****?

Do you feel me INSIDE my mouth
****
soul?
Positioning is envisioning.

Then you use adjectives
To modify descriptions of
Sensory inscriptions
So, gentle complements touch
Soft and passionate kiss
And you become superlative

And adverbs elaborate experience
expression
exploration

You fill me deeply
thoroughly
violently with all that is you

But adverbs can also mean time
Not sweet or cursed time
Or time denoting age
But timing is always important
And grammar dictates
That
Time adverbs are placed
As a beginning or an end
Like a lover's embrace

Thus,
This morning, you woke me with
A demanding "here and now! " and I will reciprocate this, tonight, I vow.

Conjunctions are sentence connectors
And sentences behave like detectors
Bodies balancing with and, but, or
Otherwise subordinate
And the scale tips towards
Conditioning hypotaxis
Making actions a complicated praxis

(before my mind can connect, you will have to pursuade it /pursue it)

But we coordinate conjunctions
Equally
I touch you
You touch me
Exploring
Exploding sensory functions

So, together we cry imperatives
Completing our ****** narratives

Moaning
Whimpering
Begging
Yelling: Please... bind me!
touch me!
bite me!
take me!
come!

Oh! Please, come!

I love the English language... ;)

Patricia Drake Feb 2013
Momentarily we met
Words touched
On a backlit page
So briefly
We needed to flee
For time
Earth's revolution
Parted us each day
So, when you slept
I longed
For your words
Each day
And I shivered
In the coolness
Of your structures
You mesmerised me
Bound me to the letters
We wrote
In collaboration
On unreal paper
In the hours
We stole
I breathed this
For a moment
Pretending

Bruises
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
The silence

of a thousand words

trapped

a concealed violence

in unspoken blows

And bruises

of a thousand blows

imagined

behind pending words

of obvious frustration
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
This is where we begin
Our world does not exist
Until we make it
Create it anew

And it begins with a thread
We connect pegs
And weave
Funnels,  networks
Interlocking destinies
In light fantastic

All is light
And yarn - no scissors?

Bloody Nightmare
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
We woke up disoriented
Blinded
The room was white
Unfamiliar
And painful

One started screaming
She had found her skin
Frayed in places
And then patched
With fur

Another one came to
But she could not move
For her hands and legs
Had been sewn
Together with the mattress

And a man
Lying next to me
Had been given
An extra pair
Of arms

I wondered who might be missing
A pair

****** was the room
First seen as white
And I as well

I realised
That I was holding a needle
And a scalpel

Taking Apart Language
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
I had to disassemble it
Our world
Take it apart
Bit by bit
Word by word
Those words
Letters
Full of meaning
Could no longer exist
Anywhere

My friend, my lover
And my refuge
Suddenly turned
Traitor
Turned foul
Deceptive
Dangerous
My friend, my lover
My language

So I began the demolition
Of clandestine concepts
Tearing apart nouns
And adversary adjectives
violently, I separated verbs
And adverbs
Thus impairing indecent interjections
Until our grammar
Finally collapsed

Now there is only silence
Safety in signs like
Minuscule monuments
All bereft of meaning
And I am in mourning
For I have no words
To throw into the void
Only memories
Of distant dialogues
Dreams

Birth Of A Star
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
In the dark we form
From the nebula
Of hydrogen and dust
We compress
Under massive gravitational force
Slowly rotating
we increase
In matter
But pressure from others
And our own gravitation
Causes our collapse
We cool down
Emitting infrared light
And radio waves
And we spin faster
As our spin increases
Temperatures rise
And once more
we form
With centrifugal force
A central core
Stable
And a revolving disc
Of future planets
Soon orbiting
Our heat
Caused by the friction of bodies
Makes us glow
Our fusion
prevents further contraction
And begets jets
Intense beams of radiation
For lifeforms to enjoy
Or fear

But we know
That when the hydrogen fuel is spent
This star too
Will begin to die

Chaotic Pattern
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
An anarchist atom
Assaults the atmosphere
With anger and aerial arson
Bringing, begetting
Brutal and ****** battles
In my brain
Initiating chaos
With charges
Of chemicals.
A disection,  distortion
Diversion of dedication
And direction
Causing eruptions
Emissions
Of erratic, electric elements
Of ego.
Ferocious fires form
In filaments, firmaments
Feeding the fantastic
Forces
Which grow and gain
In greatness in gravity
Grave, gory, gorgeous
Gloom.
Henceforth hidden horrors
Harrowed in a hollow heart
Instantly interact with
Intimate ideas
Initiating irregular, irrational
Irreversible
Irrelevant
Intimacy
Jealousy
Jumbling of jinxes
And laws of the jungle
For kicks
Leading to lies
Leaving love for loneliness
Loss.
A massive moral meltdown
In my mind
Negating, neutralising
normality
Orchestrates an open
Onslaught of order
And ordinary
People's principles
To pursue passion
And perfection
In a poetic periphery
Quite queer to some
And quaint to those
Not acquainted with
Rushes of ramblings
Received and reciprocated
Or radical ridicule
Of rascals.
Synapses send,
Signal every sinew
Simulating similar signs
But transmitting treacherous
Tingles
Teasing,  trapping thoughts
In terror, temptations
To commit treason
Unforgivable,  unforgettable
Us
Vivid and vibrant
But also very
Woeful
Wishing we were wild
And willing to walk
Our wishes make wonderful
Wells of
Youth
And creative zest.

Picture me dancing
On velvetine pathways
Towards sequin peaks in the clouds
I am jumping and skipping
Those ropes you've laid for me
To make sure I don’t lose my way

On the trees I see ribbons
And some flowers for keeping
In colours to match your bright eyes
I am following footsteps
Of chattering parties
Soon I shall be sailing the skies

But rainbows catch fire
And stroboscope lightning
Makes staccato love to me now
Tying senses with ribbons
And handcuffs of neon
I climb to slide down in delight

Tides
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
In my language
The word for time is old
And slow
It refers to tides
Rolling back and forth
Eternally
Shaping our shores
Moving our minds.

In my language
The word for an hour
Is time itself
Thus holding captive
A fragment of eternity
Within a mere fracture
Of a life
Of a day

A minute in my language
Is a letter shorter than yours
But sometimes
They feel longer
Stretched
In boredom
Or anticipation

Sometimes
They disappear
The minutes
Taking with them
The moment
Like seconds

Ours seconds
With a slightly harsher spelling
Are still fragile
Fickle,  evasive
They make everything
Relative
Change fates
Inspire artists
Win wars
But the tides are eternal

Time, in my language,
Is bound
To the Earth
To forces
Greater than us.

Autumn spins her web
Across a golden hall
Lacing the room
With diamond ropes
Welcoming the bold

Autumn waits
In a guilded hall
With fangs of silent oblivion
And chains so strong
They will hold any man

Autumn captures
The last ray of sunlight
In the reflection
Of a frightened eye
Just before the last sun sets

Autumn sleeps
In a bed of frosted leaves
Her web now broken
Unnecessary
Her job is done

Soaked and
Silently shouting
sobbing
With severe stab wounds

Sometimes she stops
For seconds swaying

Sore feet
In sequin stilettos
She is seen by several
But she seems invisible
Insignificant

Slip
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
Safeguarded by shadows
I saw
Servants performing
Sedated but live
Sacrifice
On a stone altar
I saw them sever spines
And several limbs
I heard snaps
Saw skinning
Stabbings
Some wrists getting slit
And I slipped
Suddenly
The stairs were slippery
And I stumbled
Among skeletons
Skulls, skins
And serpents
Stupefied and scared
I stood
In the sanctuary
Surrounded by soulless shells
Swarming me
Seeking to sink
Their shredding teeth
Into my shivering skin
And stick their sullied spears
Through the sockets
Of my eyes
To stab at
my sanity

Reverse Creation
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
He began with all living things
On the first day of anti-creation
Killing all; be they beggars or kings
No judgment just pure negation

On the second day lights went out
There was no longer night nor day
Only darkness was present throughout
Not a shadow not a tinge of grey

All this darkness destroyed vegetation
Photosynthesis ceased to take place
Everything was beyond devastation
Gasping and lacking in grace

The fourth day destroyed solid ground
He made sure every rock all the stones
Would sink and not ever be found
No one would ever unearth old bones

On the fifth day the clouds were unmade
Rain reunited the sea with the sky
In a marvelously heavy cascade
So the second last day went by

On the last day he reversed creation
Of Heaven and Earth in one blow
It was much easier than damnation
And God sat there and enjoyed the show.

Interlaced Stories
Patricia Drake Feb 2013
They grabbed me
As soon as I sat down
Twisted my arms
My thoughts
As I tried to break free
Of their pull
Lacing me up
Tying strings
Fugue stories
In and out
Of narrative concepts
Sometimes choking me
with their criss crossing narratives
their multiple voices
Forcing me
To reflect
To rediscover
Reality
In its music

I tried to resist
The noise
The web of multiple choices
Always evading inspection
Resisting interpretation
But the music
The recollection of lost textuality
Pulled me in
And tied me
In an unholy comedy
Of errors
And injustice
A farce
Like this interlaced story
We are all bound to

When he reached out
To touch her hair
Under a perfect blue sky
He fell
And with the colours he faded

Volcano

As the pressure builds below
With rising levels of acidity
The waters around us show signs
Of impending doom
There are cracks at times
Sulphoric fumes too
But no one cares
as long as the plaster holds.
In time the magma builds
Like a boil the mantle explodes
In a Plinian eruption
Of petrifying pyroclastics
And lava flows
Raging and ravishing
Fertile lands
With misery and despair in its wake
As it calms down
And the lava cools
The reconstruction begins
Around the old mantle
The surface crusts again
Like a wound healing
But marked
Scarred
And the pressure builds once more
Another eruption is imminent
The mantle builds every time
Until it collapses
Into a magnificent caldera
The imploded chamber
Of an emptied magma chamber
