I am from dancing moves
The smell of books and taste of berries
I’m from little kids smiles
(Bright, genuine
So beautifully innocent)
I’m from the friends left behind
Who I met, shared valuable memories
And never looked back

I am from winter coats and sunshine looks
From wonderful Mama Julia, Mrs. Carmain and Mrs. Rawlins
I’m from “cantaleta,” and “berraquera”
From “get yourself together”
I’m from “We got this, if we don’t, the world ends,”
La Reina del Flow
Soy Luna
And the little things of life

I’m from Cartagena and Ciudad 2000
Sweet cholados and salty plantains
From the times my mom’s been hurt
From the trips with no longer step-sisters
The times of people who passed away
From mom’s memories there was this unicorn stuffed animal
It’s name was “Pinky”
I carried it with me everywhere
Never leaving it alone
It was the thought of home
I am these small moments
Living in my mind
At last I have found
Kindness is the color of a bright light
orange
Looks like the reflection of the sun setting in the ocean
The taste of a bowl of fruits eaten on the
beach
Sounds like laughter and the brisk of the wind combined
It’s scent its of tropical smoothies on a sunny
day
Feels like silky sheets on a good night’s
sleep

The Feeling of Kindness

— The End —
