Your dimples like the ocean,
carved out of the earth in perfect ovals,
deep, pale, and inviting
only present themselves
when I need their warmth
most desperately and
I've always been kind of
uncomfortable with the way
I look in my bathroom mirror,
absolutely soaked in flaws
illuminated dramatically
by daunting white fluorescent lights
but I have to say
I like the way my face looks
kind of soft and easy when
I catch a glimpse of it
all tinted green in the reflection
of your eyes

You are smoking a misty rose
with your legs crossed in front
of a sliding screen door
and the way the sun hits the
small blonde hairs on your thigh
makes you seem kind of
vulnerable but then again
you are breathing fire,
quite literally
and the biggest star
in the sky has
come just to
touch you where your
strength collects most
vividly,
I think it is absorbing you,
I think it will be so bright today
that flowers will break free
from the earth & grow
at rapid speeds
because you are in the sky now,
or you've always been,
maybe only for me
or maybe for the entire world,
I can't decide

yesterday you cried
on the way home from
center city
right in the back of
a ***** taxi cab
and when we got
to the north side
you said the rain
was just so pretty

I don't always understand
the contents of your skull
but I know that it all fits
somehow with the decor
in my house
and you are more than
shower *** on Friday night
and you are more than
pancakes on Sunday morning,
cause I could stare at you forever
and die thinking I'll live forever

you are too familiar with yourself
with your face
your body
your beauty

your reflection is an image skewed from being seen by
your same eyes too often
your confidence is a locked box you keep in the back of
your closet
your smile is more uncomfortable than it is curling and
you've grown to hate the large of your laugh

you are blind to almost all that you are

but just imagine,
for a second
what you look like
to someone who is a stranger

you could be their textbook definition of ideal
their exact description of beautiful and
you wouldn't even know it

imagine for a moment
how your greatness might resonate
with someone who has never been close to that much at once

there have been people in your life who
have attempted to break you into smaller pieces
crush you from whole so you would be easier to swallow

there will always be some who will be unable to see your worth
others who wont be able to handle you
maybe they'll see too much and try to shrink you into less
with the hopes of becoming more themselves

you build yourself quieter each time that you do
you know how to shy away from the prescence of light and
you've settled comfortably in the shadow of day

but there is someone out there waiting to hear your loud
a blank canvas ready to be filled with all of your paint
you will be the exact shade they have spent their entire life trying to find

and when they do
you'll remember that there was a time
before you were taught to see dark
when you could see all of your colors clear
without trying

I ignored it
Like when you see a spider on your bedroom wall out of the corner of your eye
or you see your phone light up with his name at 2am
Because hey, you've gotta get some rest

A- She is just like me. A leader. A strong, independent, bisexual woman, she controls the alphabet from this end, and everyone respects her.

B-He's a nice guy, a bit pretentious, but nothing too special. The first time I saw Friends, I new that Ross was literally the letter B incarnated.

C- B's best friend, goes by male pronouns, but is gender fluid sometimes. He is much more genuine than B.

D- One of A's closest friend. She is cool, and kind of like a bad *** English teacher.

E- A ****. Your typical school bully. He's dating D.

F- E's wing-man, but like the stereotypical wing-man, he is kind hearted, but too much of a shy follower. And he likes D.

G- H's brother. Good student, slightly over weight, and just as homosexual as his sister.

H- The "mom" of the friend group. She is smart and supportive. My favorite lesbian of the alphabet.

I- A real cool dude. Spiky hair and sunglasses. He likes to lean against brick walls and just look cool. Very cool.

J- He is K's best friend.

K- She is J's best friend.

L- He hangs out with M, but not too much because he really isn't found of her littler sister N. He's too much of a wimp for my taste.

M- She is a really independent confident girl. She goes on double dates with O, P, and her sister N. She has a side thing going on with the letter A.

N- She lives in the shadow of her sister. She kind of reminds me of my own sister.

O- He is P's best friend, and always tells him what to do. He reminds me of E, but they've never met.

P- Let's O push him around. He hangs out with O, M, and N. But his true love is Q.

Q- She is quiet, but strong. She is madly in love with P. They sneak out together a lot. She has over protecting parents.

R- She is the leader of the Q-R-S friend group. A transgender and asexual bad ***. She supports Q and P, but not S and T

S- Tries to listen to her older friend R, but is just a good kid making bad decisions. She has a HUGE crush on both T and U.

T- Loves U. Strong male, plays football and works at a car wash.

U- She's a princess. Very quiet and polite. In a relationship with T, but I don't know her true intentions.

V- U's older sibling. A-gender and a CEO of some big business.

W- Same personality as H, but not as motherly, and bisexual.

X- The third wheel to the X-Y-Z clan. Also agender, and really just a fly on the wall. They sees a lot, but really don't like to socialize. But they really like going to the zoo.

Y-  Z's beta. Her best friend, and wife. They are ride and die ******* for life.

Z- Just like A. Exactly like A. Only she is in a committed relationship with Y. She controls the alphabet from this end, and everyone respects her.

modest mouse tastes like you
and i wonder how you could
have left such a stain running
down my throat
down my right forearm
maybe i should just get the
color tattooed into my skin the
way it wants to be but would
it bleed into the marks
from her
and him
and him
did i bruise them the same way
do they walk through life with
my name etched into their
elbows or trailing down the
length of their spines or have
they covered it up with sweaters
and bandaids
what did i leave with you
besides the last remaining shreds
of my tattered sanity
is there any residue of my laugh
lingering on the curve of your
bottom lip or do you smell my
shampoo on your pillows
have you found my name
on you have you found my
name on you have you
found my name on you
"was it ever worth it?
was there all that much to gain?
well we knew we missed the boat
and we'd already missed the plane
we didn't read the invite
we just dance at our wake
all our favorites were playing
so we could shake, shake, shake, shake, shake"

You say you hate Los Angeles,
the city but mostly people there and
I can't help but wonder how
you managed to meet everyone
in the entire county,
a couple million or so,
from the few trips you took out here

But I think the problem isn't that
you hate Los Angeles
I think the problem is
you love me too much
at least I'll tell myself that when
I'm laying in bed with open eyes
wondering why you aren't here

I offer you planes, plans, my wallet
I say I'll pay, just for two days and
you say no without hesitation
I say I have a life and
I want you to see it and
you say you have no interest

Well,
if you have no interest then
why are you calling me?
why waste time talking over
nothing?
what is it that you are so
aftaid of?

You say we'll fight and
I know it's true although
it's not suffice to say
it's all we'd do
I say what about the making up that
comes after it all,
isn't that worth it
after all?

I can't have you in
my life if you're not here
this is something I know
I reach for arms that aren't there and
It's a bad habit I'm getting used to
I don't want to go back to
my old life
I want you to be in my new

but you hate Los Angeles and
school and everything in
life is too hard for you
you're mad I have opinions and
you never listen to them anyway
so you can stay
in the heat that will eventually
become cold
and I'll leave you alone because
that's what you want

I know it isn't
but I don't want to go back to
my old life
so I guess all there is to do
is to just find someone
new

I'll stay awake all night
rubbing my ankles against your ankles
if that's what you want
Or I'll turn side ways
and let you slump your
scarred arm over my tired rib cage
if that's what you want
And if you feel like coming out of your skin
And if you can't lay still
we can take laps around your living room
if that's what you want
Or if your home doesn't feel like home
and you feel scared of
the pictures on your walls
then I'll drive until the sun comes up
and if the sun comes up
and the thought of pulling back into
your drive way makes your stomach turn
we can go to the city for the day,
I'll take work off
I heard there's a show
at the Electric Factory,
but if you can't be in a crowd tonight
then let's just sit in the alley by
my old place
and drink some whiskey,
pretend we're still gutter punks
like we were when we were sixteen
And if your eye lids start to feel heavy
but you're afraid to sleep
cause you can't swallow
the bad dreams and
what they mean anymore,
then you can rest your head on my shoulder,
I promise I'll whisper kindness
into your ear all night
so that all that's floating
through your skull
is laced in lilac and yellow
with no black spaces in between

I open my eyes and there he'd be,
Sitting at the edge of the bed,
Staring right up at me.
I swear his eyes and expression
Have love written all over them.
A silent message impossible not to see.

I pat the bed and up he comes,
Flops down beside me and
nestles his head upon my chest,
A big contented sigh his only utterance.
This our ritual of the morn,
He always waits, never jumps the gun.
Waits for permission like any good son.

What do they think I wonder,
What drives their loyal companionship,
Their unconditional love for we human beings?

Truly did we ever have a better friend?
A shadow, follow us anywhere,
Willing to take a bullet to protect us,
Cries when we leave them,
Always overjoyed to see us even if it's only
been minutes since we left their sight?

What other living creature is so willing to
overlook our failures, our unintentional abuse,
And never guilt us for these our all too human mistakes.

I wish I only knew more people,
That had the loving, steadfast
Nobel character of a faithful dog.
Oh, what a better world this would be
if only we acquired some simple animal behavior.
Today my Boxer Dog "Tucker" moved me to
put feelings into words to share.

I have missed all you guys and can never begin to
catch up with all the many fine words that have
flowed across the HP site in my absence. I do send
you all my affection and hope life is being good to
you.
