The Widow
Anson Thomas Dec 2014
I followed the lead,
Of my sinister caretaker
I was taught to serve my greed.
And we lived with men of no stature!

That was when my people, brown
Just free from the clutches of blond folk
We spoiled many men, who wore an unseen crown!
For our avarice grew of their prosperity’s scent.

We hooligans ruled the fear,
Of the humble and the righteous
They knew they lived in no ****** shire.
Our bare sight, rouse them nervous!

We revered no civil code
Vices and hatred our nub,
We belonged to no family, no abode.
No handcuffs strong enough to help curb!

Such was our thing, our cupidity,
To which none dare rise against!
Our victims seldom showed their agility,
For grief we inflict is a poor choice to endure.

The honest fell on my grime feet,
But how long will justice fail to prevail?
My hired judges failed to sow my ‘righteous’ seed,
And I was pushed into the chasm of evil to wail!

My life until death now lay waste,
These insidious walls seldom let me rest!
My wretched soul yearns to run away in haste
The very thought of freedom, a precious zest.

The days at first I numbered for a lost cause.
They made me hope, the very part I often stole,
From the just by virtue of my flaws!
At night I sit waiting for the sun to rise.

Those rays of light seem now as precious gold.
No prison mate was a heart of resort.
As a shoulder to cry upon and hold!
I yearn for a wise consort.

A woman like a mother, I wish.
Though a dream, I least have this liberty,
I feel blessed to have it to relish.
But I remind myself to repent for eternity.

I am reduced to a number,
I dread to now count!
Seldom have I got to be in a deep slumber,
My nightmares bark like a hound.

I stare out of the window,
As repentance flows out of my eyes
A woman came searching for me that fine day
The woman of a just man I once slay!

She didn’t have revenge in her mind
But pity and mercy like the viscous honey!
She bought sweets, I met someone kind!
I felt mortified of having robbed her man.

She claimed to instill goodness in me,
That there would be no disparity amongst us
If she choose to be passive and loathe!
That day after years I felt a bird sang to me of joy.

She preached to me of gods,
Of the same virtue but different form!
I prayed to them, one day a lord,
And soon watching her made my heart race!

For she was the only woman I knew
The only one I fell for,
A forbidden love, I fancy!
Soon she departed to her pristine abode
And with her left an eternal grace!

To this widow I owe my soul,
Her goodness makes me hope.
That I can be righteous and commit no foul
And this was a dream I sowed passion for.

I would stare out of the window
To see the birds soar high.
No mountain stopped their flight,
Nor a tree tempted them to rest.

Then when I heard of death’s call
And that my endowments lay unperformed
Her words proved to be true,
Hope surpasses the depth of every woe.

There lay a little of life to live,
A respite offered for a promise.
And they let me see the world,
All its grandeur, all its bounty!

It seemed nothing like yesterday
For they had taken from me
The chunk I should’ve valued most!
The world had risen in time,
And I was left with none.

But it felt akin to waking up
Like from a deep slumber,
In a place not known to me!
And every priceless breath I now took,
Like the first breath after coma,
The courtesy of the widow!
An ode to all the prisoners around the world who repent.

Waking Up
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
Wondering if she is really the queen of fairies,
I wake up every morning with this thought.
The sparrows chirp me back to reality
I smell the sweet intoxication of roses,
And I realise all this while I was dreaming,
Those dreams belonged to my broken heart.
It is now after meeting her,
Now my heart wakes up anew.
Solemn, wanted and loved!

What Good is my Admiration?
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
Do you know I've been wandering,
In search of someone like you.
Another sun shine and I'm afraid you'll be gone
Is love a misery that never ends?
You'll save a soul, only with your simple nods
And that will light up the night sky!

I hate to fake and pretend
I'm too impatient to my wish
Yet it is a test I can't overwhelm.
Restlessness has become my strongest suit
Hope is a dreadful enemy!

If only this love is returned,
Moments and days would be a blissful possession
But what good is my admiration?
If it is to be unrequited and unrecognised....

Talk to her of me!
Anson Thomas Jan 2015
Oh pious advocates of peace!
Oh beatific doves of peace!
Hear me oh hear me
For the voice of mine is numb
To the one I profoundly love.
Your voice is but a lore of truth!
That which often goes hidden to the many men,
Those who walk for the living sake!

She who I love hears your voice with fondness
Trusting its novelty, the wisdom it speaks of.
Talk to her of my remorse
For I have learnt the wisdom
That which remorse had to teach!

Oh selfless hands of the earth!
Oh liberal branches of the trees!
Hear me oh hear me
For the deeds of mine are frail
To the one I profoundly love.
Your deeds are but a lore of self giving!
Often granted to the many men,
Those who walk for living sake!

She who I love is an ardent witness to your deeds
Trusting your tranquility, the selflessness you abide to.
Talk to her of my deeds
For I have learnt the wisdom
That which the brunt of misdeeds had to teach!

Talk to her of my remorse oh doves of peace!
Talk to her of my deeds oh liberal branches of the trees!
Talk to her of me!

Her #1
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
"You are so absurdly naive," my friend said. "You'll just be a poem reciter and nothing else, like the small kids in school. Twinkle twinkle little star..." His voice was full of contempt. "You are stupid, why would you waste yourself on something you can never have? Oh yeah because you get to write, how stupid!"
I just said, "She inspires my art and that is a privilege enough to love and cherish. Every other reason I can have to love her is just a cliché of the everyday guy she will find in plenty.... But you know I am not that everyday guy!" And then I laughed.... Because I look so very much like an everyday guy....

Drawing Me to You
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
I wonder what goes on in your mind,
I question myself for silent answers
For some days your thoughts seem like,
My beginning and my end
The song of my heart, my muse
Your simple nods and smiles
Never stop drawing me to you

I wonder who's that singer so lucky
The one you so like!
Oh how could I forget its not just one but many...
That boy band you love so much!
For some days I envy them
Wishing I could hold a guitar and sing songs like them
The song of my heart, my muse
Your simple nods and smiles
Never stop drawing me to you

I Remember
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
Walk up the floors to see her
And wait for the science class to end
I had to know her, know who she was
It would be hard to part from her, my friends had said.
I'll then go to the stars and cry, I told them,
I remember....

I was putting a puzzle to sense
But her questions were something I waited for long
I had to know her, know who she was
It will cost you your sleep, my friends had said.
I'll then go to the moon for a blissful coma, I told them,
I remember....

I had to ask her a question
Would she love me the way I do?
I had to know her, know her better
Her refusal will bring in dark clouds, my friends had said.
I'll then fight the clouds for the sun, I told them.
I remember, and I will remember her forever!

This September
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
When rains fail to none,
When the first sun shine is so flawless,
I wait for her to come by
This September it is
I'll speak with her I tell myself

I ask her friends where she has been
'She was around we don't know'
I just remember I saw her near the statue
Early on this happy day, so broken!
I see through the windows, waiting
She is a novel beauty and I am broken
This September it is
I'll speak with her I tell myself!

I'll love her so perfect
She's so flawless in her own way
The birds never cared for seasons to leave
Why then should I wait for these clouds to depart?
This September it is
I'll speak with her I tell myself!

Photographs
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
Photographs, they sing as the mellow songbirds
They speak as puppets,
Telling me only what I wish to hear
And what do I desire?
There's still a cloud over me,
While my hopes jump high
It is her photograph I can only smile at.

Who knew my fate?
Gods? Angels? Science?
The Heart, a scoundrel of renown,
He laughs at me,
When I smile at her photograph!

There lies a sadness sweet as honey
It hurts but still I am not afraid of her denail.
For I have loved her and she will Iive on
And her beauty will stay alive for years!
What worth is a picture of stillness?
When the lover has words and music!
When he has her smile and shy nods,
And that's an approval enough....

Stories and Songs
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
Have you ever dreamed of infinity?
Everything that you've ever wanted,
A sweet dream it is of mine!
For you give me in a sight
Stories and songs so perfect!

New beginnings beckon me, I feel,
How does one build love?
They travel to places uncharted
And find tales, novel and pure!
Just as my eyes open,
A tear rolls down my cheek
And poems for you follow in a mist!

It is a favour I can never fully return,
Not everyone would understand this obsession,
It is one of the dreamers, prophets and hermits
I pray you understand it too....

Have you ever dreamed of infinity?
Everything that you've ever wanted,
A sweet dream it is of mine!
For you give me in a sight
Stories and songs so perfect!

He Wished...
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
He wished she didn't belong to someone else
He wished she was the novelty he had always desired....
He wished rainbows, butterflies and Science never existed!
And he wished stealing glances would be much easier!
Oh how he wished to make her feel beautiful
And ask her if she was fine with some shy talk!
Is it love or a rush of sweet tidings?
He wished to know the beauty of her soul
And the sweet fragility of her visage,
That turns the ardent days of autumn
Sick and pale with envy!

The Trail of Distances
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
There is a smile she wears
I am just trying to figure out,
What makes her like, all that makes her happy?
She can have my faith and my insanity
But this trail of distances is too treacherous!

She sways her hair
And the air turns mystifying
She hugs some friends
Obviously I turn envious
But does she ever feel it just like me?
And this trail of distances is too treacherous!

My friends ask me to stay calm,
Distances are like water, they say.
But the times we are apart makes my heart yearn for her
And when she is around I try to stay at bay
I never understood Science, this is one
And this trail of distances composes poetry like none!

The Way Lovers Speak
Anson Thomas Nov 2014
Those instruments of the body
To help one see beauty and brute at once!
These are of  profound price
To the lovers rare wit,
That which they shall pay for, with their blood!
It is seldom these eyes are
The way lovers speak!

It is the eyes who speak
It is the eyes who hear
Where silence is the music of the ambiance!
Oh the ways of love
Who dares try understand them?

It is the mist that which never hides!
But often helps one lose his ways.
It is seldom these eyes are
The way lovers speak!

It is the eyes who speak
It is the eyes who hear
While they fist fight
For a naive smile, a novel price!
Oh the ways of love
Who dares try understand them?

It is the stars residing in celestial laps
But often too far off to earn!
It is seldom these eyes are
The way lovers speak!

It is the eyes who speak
It is the eyes who hear
When whispers seem too shrill
For eager foes of love to hear!
Oh the ways of love
Who dares try understand them?

It is the froth so mesmerizing
But often too frail to touch!
It is seldom these eyes are
The way lovers speak!

Dead End
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
If you could run with me,
If you could stay back for some time...
All that I will be and all that I can be
Gets to be so perfect with you!
Just know that these moments won't change
Even if our roads turn to a dead end.

If you could gaze the Sea with me,
If you could take a walk with me...
Those three words are cliché,
Your presence speaks more than words do!
Just know that these moments won't change
Even if our roads turn to a dead end.

If you could be one with this gentle night,
If you could be the song of my dawn...
Take me to a pond blue with life
And bring my soul out of its depths!
And you will know,
That these moments won't change
Even if our roads turn to a dead end.

See You Around
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
She throws me a slow high-five
And turns to the gloomy corridor.
She's rushing to someplace I know not of,
Her friends join her and oh her jolly!
Why don't you fall for me?
I wish to ask....
I then realise we've been friends,
For just a day or two
"See you around," she says, and I have to depart.

This stupid whimsical heart I have
He is still getting used to,
Her nuances and this sudden sweet blush.
He stammers and shivers
He stops and stares like a child!
Why don't you be with me the way you are with others?
I wish to ask....
I then realise we've been friends
For just a day or two
"See you around," she says, and I have to depart.

Of all the jokes Heart plays on me,
Her three words,
Would be the worst or the best!
But I wonder what would her three words be,
"See you around" or.....

Let's wander
Let's go walk around town
Would you like to forget the world?
I don't know how better to put this up
Those three words are not enough

Let's eat and drink
Let's stare skies and chase the birds above
Would you like to feel the air turn into wind
I don't know how better to put this up
Those three words are not enough

Let's wonder if the obvious is right
Let's stand apart and watch the world's madness
Would you like to visit a paradise that's not grey?
I don't know how better to put this up
Those three words are not enough.....
I once heared, so have you,
"Actions speak louder than words!"
Let's together put it to test....

A Monkey Dancing in War
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
Saying things that you already know
I fear I'll look so stupid!
I don't want to speak about something cliché
My friends tell me its gonna be fine,
They force me to say what they think is right
No flattery, no sweet lies!

She reads my poem,
Doesn't seem flattered.
Oh the Irony!
She is bored and silent
While I try and steal words
Shall I just step back and just let go?

She is Ambiguity,
God's mockery,
And this fools illusion of wisdom
Love is of all a monkey dancing in war!

She is a Season
Anson Thomas Sep 2015
If she is to go away,
What good will art then be?
The stars will glimmer
But only in the bright daylight
And no one shall see their presitine antiquity.
She will then be,
A season gone, but never to return!

She is a season,
That season which gathers rust and turns it to gold.
She is a season,
That season which calms the restless seas forever.
She is a season,
That season which puts away the evil of this world!

If she is to go away,
What good is then my existence?
I shall write poems still,
But they will fade away to the unknown
And no one will know what thoughts they evoked.
She will then be,
A season gone, but never to return!
This poets grave tragedy!
