Someday someone
will love me like they do in the summer
even when the snow falls.

I could string together
intricate words to form
beautiful sentences
all explaining how
the color of your eyes reminds me
of the Arizona sky
or the ocean during a storm
but all I really want
is your heart in my hands
and your lips planted on mine

Audre Lorde
If you come as softly
As the wind within the trees
You may hear what I hear
See what sorrow sees.

If you come as lightly
As threading dew
I will take you gladly
Nor ask more of you.

You may sit beside me
Silent as a breath
Only those who stay dead
Shall remember death.

And if you come I will be silent
Nor speak harsh words to you.
I will not ask you why now.
Or how, or what you do.

We shall sit here, softly
Beneath two different years
And the rich between us
Shall drink our tears.

Raindrops on
My windowsill
Race down
Paths that
Light trace for it,

Faint slants
Which carve
Niches for
The innocent—

Mornings which
Cough faintly,
Smoke lingering

On her throat
But still singing.

Put in the effort;
mix in the ingredients
and wait for the cake to rise-
keep the oven door shut.
If need be turn on the light
to watch the wait occur, concur with yourself
time and again and repeat the thought and its implications
and complications and re-study the information already gathered.

Recipes only go right if you
don't follow the measurements,
so pour a little more than need be,
kneed a little longer,
forget everything learnt
and be yourself around her.

I do not bark
But have a bite
I do no harm
Unless we fight
Yet I be the only dog of the sea thats
Unloved

I'm gentle and social
I travel
I follow
A scent is a dinner
Eating out

Be I misunderstood
Be I fair
I'm hungry
I feast
your ........
Fait accompli

With my eyes
I forge canyons,
deep rivers and wild
landscapes, mountains
that kiss the sky and
land locked lakes

I move, limb by
limb, away from the
sadness that haunts
me, with my feet
I map out my future,
with my fingers
I bury the past

I imagine
you finding me
amongst the rocks
I lay against their edges
as if I am a mermaid
with golden hair
instead a mortal girl
trapped, in a believable
body

when you reach me,
your spread me
like a plague
and the stones
beneath me
shall shake

afterwards, we are face
to face, staring into
the eyes of each
other, and in that
reflection we become
enemies

you leave me, wordless

my eyes now,
like a camera,
containing images
that never develop
into landscapes
of love

Promises are made to be broken and
Your words are as hollow as this home
Empty gestures I no longer believe in
And a sense of dread whenever you call
Friendship is a two way street
But I had to put all the time in
Next time you call I won't answer the phone
Find a new fool to confide in
