Butterflies
Mitch Prax Feb 2023
Why do I still
feel you in my bones?
Memories still fill my chest,
leaving butterflies in their wake
just as you once did.

Wasteland
Mitch Prax Feb 2023
I was in love with a wasteland
because it was once home to sunflowers.
My memories had become locusts
and left nothing to grow in their wake.
Little did I know that the sunflowers
did not stand a chance.

Rot & Death
Mitch Prax Feb 2023
To dig up the past,
is to raise the dead.
Let it rest,
for you will find
nothing but rot and death.
Do not relive the horrors
of a life now deceased.

Disappear

One day you said
your last goodbye
and we turned away.
We just disappeared
from each other's world

Solitude
Mitch Prax Jan 2023
Solitude is not my enemy,
Solitude is more of a pet.
I call it over in times of need-
it comes to me, sits by my side
and makes for good company.
Sometimes solitude will bite
to remind me of just how lonely
the solitary life can be.
But thanks to solitude,
I see life for what it is.

Window
Mitch Prax Jan 2023
I find myself peeking through
a window I had closed long ago.
All that remains is shadow and silence
of a life long left behind.
That place builds up dust now,
an empty room that I
once called home.

Dawn until Dusk
Mitch Prax Jan 2023
Have you ever danced
to the rhythm of the sunflowers?
The notes of the sun fall on our feet
as I sway with the petals
from dawn until dusk.

Beautiful Day
Mitch Prax Dec 2022
Soon you will be in my arms,
and I plan to wrap them
around you like a Christmas present.
I want to spend the oceans I crossed
to reach you to swim in your eyes
and get lost in your smile
as warm as a Vietnamese day.
Indeed, tomorrow will be
a beautiful day.

Love Alone
Mitch Prax Dec 2022
I now know that
I cannot live without love,
but love alone is not enough
to vanquish these demons.
They are not so easily repelled by love alone,
in fact they are not satisfied
by anything at all.
They feed on the darkness
and in this emptiness,
they make their home.

Mitch Prax Dec 2022
Sometimes
you just have to
let the anger, the darkness,
the sadness and chaos go.
Sometimes
all you can do is
yield these feelings
to the past and try
to not look back.

Mitch Prax Nov 2022
Maybe I will never understand
how you took control this heart.
Was it sorcery or something sinister?
No, I suspect it had something to do with
the sweetness of your soul or
your beauty that leave
even the nymphs
in awe.

Outside the Box
Mitch Prax Nov 2022
Once someone breaks your heart,
it's hard to ever let your guard down.
A new person, a new heart-
one that does not beat so blissfully
as it did before the heartbreak.
We overanalyze their every word.
Are they lying or do they
really mean what they say?
Maybe they're hiding something
or maybe anxiety strikes again.
Maybe they will leave at any moment,
it wouldn't be the first time.
Indeed, we try to think outside the box
in hopes to avoid another heartbreak.
In doing so we lose a part of ourselves.
