 Dec 2012 Marigold
M Clement
Panic attacks in swift motion
Showing looks of anguish
Curled up on beds with ruffled sheets
Water in hand,
Matching the color of tears
On your face

Friends with little forethought
Playing cards with
******* who like their liquor
Selfishness abounds for children
Without responsibilities

"Let's get chronic,
I know a dealer."
"Come to the house with us,
the party's only beginning."

I may be a fly on the wall,
And I may be silent,
But know the thoughts in my mind
Are scathing.

Stroking keys with grace
And aplomb
Scratching paper
With black or blue ink

Bringing about pictures
In other's minds
With words
Simple words

Words that could mean nothing
But you and I know better

Link together two things,
Three things, four
Alike in few aspects
Word it proper
Bring about emotion
Reaction

tell me,
is orange still your favorite color?
i'm just curious,
it's of no relevance

on days like these,
it's hard to act like i've forgotten,
the little things that gave you away

keeping things bottled up,
i hold back the urge to take a shot and let it out

these momentary lapses,
will be so foreign five years from now

so i keep telling myself silly things,
like, "all things come & go"

Why should I care?
I am a migrating misfit
She is one of "them"

What what we had back then,
Does it mean nothing to you?
Or did you forget?

Today I will wake up
Make coffee
Get dressed
As always

I'll walk to the bus stop
Sit on a seat where plastic meets rubber and cold calls it home
Take a sip of coffee to warm my throat
As always

Walk into school
See the same friends
Eat the same breakfast
As always

Go to classes and get the same reminders of owed work
Eat the same low standard meal shoved into my mouth like cows being fed
I'll go home
As always

Argue with my sister
Sit on my bed
And sleep
As always

But this time I'll wake up
Slightly earlier than my nap usually lasts for
An unfamiliar buzz in the air
Coming from my phone
Your name across the screen
Telling me that you'd like to be
My always

You are the reason why I
wake up every morning

                and do you know why?

because I believe you can do anything
    and I want to
                              extend that anything
                   to the moon and back

You look like a fire escape in a dress
Flower patterned
Sunday's best
I don't have to fall so hard anymore

The first night I held you
I dug your neck into a trench
This body was not at war with itself

Your shoulders are battlements
Your chest a drawbridge
I am waiting
Horseless
For you to let me in

I know you are so much softer than that

Lay across me again gorgeous
Let me sleep under your strength
The excersize was to describe a location and write about it like it were the safest place in the world without using words like safe or sanctuary. I could not for the life of me think of a place I felt safe. I wrote about a body instead. This is called a sanctuary poem.
