When people talk of beauty- I only picture your face
you think i'm wrong and should be put into place

When I tell you how perfect you are
you just list every imperfection and scar
but you'll never change my mind
wherever you go i'll follow behind
if you don't want me just ask me to leave
I will not be happy without you i grieve
I crave your touch when i'm alone
i'll still love you when we're grown
because i fell for your soul
your looks just a bonus making the whole
i love every inch of you
believe me i do

you're perfect in my eyes
even after all the lies

some people never go crazy.
me, sometimes I'll lie down behind the couch
for 3 or 4 days.
they'll find me there.
it's Cherub, they'll say, and
they pour wine down my throat
rub my chest
sprinkle me with oils.
then, I'll rise with a roar,
rant, rage -
curse them and the universe
as I send them scattering over the
lawn.
I'll feel much better,
sit down to toast and eggs,
hum a little tune,
suddenly become as lovable as a
pink
overfed whale.
some people never go crazy.
what truly horrible lives
they must lead.

Right now,
It seems
our lives
Are comprised
Of few "hellos"
And short "Goodbyes"

"Byes" aren't good
I cannot stand them
The bright hello
Becomes so dim

But...

I'd rather say bye
A thousand times
If it meant
Your arms
Could hold me more.

Dare I sleep
when I fear to dream
Everything I wanted
slipping away at the seams
Try not to get lost in it
As true as it seems
That face isn't real
even if for you the smile gleams

You may want to run away
and hide there forever
Just give up
and quietly surrender
Fading out
as her beauty begins to render
To sacrifice it all
once again to feel love so tender

"Ooh, you look happy today!"

I tell him he's seeing things.

"Alright, sunshine. Who is he?"

I laugh. Really, I can't hold it back.

"Don't laugh! I know the signs!"

I laugh again. How can he tell?

"You're laughing, but those gold eyes are telling me I'm right! Who is he?"

I give up. I describe you, of course, but leaving out... minor details.

I tell him that you're one of the most intelligent people I know.
I tell him that you're beautiful (that should have tipped him off).
I tell him that I care about you more than I ever thought possible.

"He sounds like a great guy. You like him a lot, don'tcha?
He better not hurt you. Let me know if I have to beat him up for you."

I double over in laughter. He's a fool.

"But you still didn't tell me his name, sunshine. What is it?"*

I lean in close and grab his tie, which smells like the alcoholic drinks he mixes.

**"Her name is Rachel."
I've found a friend in Mark. He seems genuine and trustworthy. He is one of the people I look forward to seeing every Saturday night, standing behind the bar.

They lay
on their
uncomfortable
bunks.

Roaches and mice
have the run
of the floor.

Stale vented
air fills the small
concrete inclosure.

The smells
and the time
they've learned
to ignore.

Some think
about what
lead them
to this and
how they can
change.

Some curse
themselves
for getting
caught and
can't wait to
try and
pull it off
again.
