Expose me
But avoid the words you say
Tonight is your destiny
But it always ends the same
A dose of heartbreak
A glimmer of lost faith
A suicidal fate
It always ends the same
The king fainted
In a theatrical collapse
With tragic momentum
He entered the chapel of doom
He didn’t mean to charm you or alarm you
He was searching for the low life
And at the electric wedding
The castles are on fire
So expose me
But beware of the words
Tonight is your destiny
We’re all fighting to be heard
And the king got out of bed
And realized he lost his head

Well I’ve done a good job at playing the great pretender
But every time night closes in I think I’m ready to surrender
And I wonder about the afterlife, and all the lost and wandering souls
And I pray that they may find peace, that they may find a home
And he can’t remember the last time he lent a hand to her
He lives in a perfect world, but all his visions are a blur
And she made plenty mistakes, including him, but the stakes were high
And like a bird with a broken wing, she never learned to fly
Why is that we wear a mask every time we face the troubled task
Of letting someone in our world- we’re all just little boys and girls
If only we could turn back time, have fun in nursery rhyme
Instead it’s a downhill climb, what’s yours is yours and mine is mine
As the poet reaches for a pen, and warm thoughts come to rescue him
He knows exactly what to say, it’s the perfect end to a long hard day
And the crowd will always erase the outcast’s downtrodden face
But in the next life he has a place, on a golden throne in outer space
Well my mind has done a good job of forgetting to remember
But as the heavy darkness closes in, I wonder if I should surrender

I walk through walls
But I can’t find the door
They see right through me
But they don’t know me at all
Like a candle swaying in a dark room
Help me find relief from a long day
Night can never come too soon
Cause in sleep I have no words to say
So surreal and so delicate
Nothing’s perfect but nothing’s a mess
So extreme and so fragile
Wonder why I’m wearing a white dress
And like a lighthouse by an ocean
Guide me to relief from a long night
Day seems like the right potion
Cause in sleep my fears take flight
I walk through walls
But I can’t find the door
They see right through me
But they don’t know me at all

The bath and body
Were lukewarm
And at the grave
Only five mourned
So she reached
For a bag of relief
Smack on the table
That would blow his mind
Blood under the nostril
Chest pains and a cough
All the bottles in the world
Just weren’t enough
Walking around
With eyeballs exposed
The quiet vampires
Are craving mystery
Take a swim
In the chemical ocean
Drown in your vows,
Your blood and your potions
To live in the afterworld
To die in life
To mingle with the spirits
To feed on the great light
She really needs
A bag of relief
To feel invincible
To feel at ease

Well I’ve lived a life just like yours
But I made some choices that were poor
So instead of having it my way
I’m selling flowers on the highway
I have a home but it moves around a lot
Maybe my rent’s the one thing I forgot
If I had my choice I’d dream by day
But for now I’m selling flowers on the highway
And somewhere, somehow, a man in a suit is burning sage
And somewhere, somehow, a woman in a dress is filled with rage
I’d like to tell them all to be proud, witty and gay
But instead I’m selling flowers on the highway
And these roads have an ego, about the size of a town
And the faceless people driving by, to me they look like clowns
Maybe I’m getting old, maybe I just need to feel okay
But for now, I’m stuck here, selling flowers on the highway
I’ve got hyacinths, marigolds and roses
I’ve got one cure for my neurosis
So pass me the bottle, if you may
I’m stuck here selling flowers on the highway
I just want to walk like I usually do
Beneath the tall buildings on the avenue
But for now I’ll bask in the sun’s rays
I’m just a human being, selling flowers on the highway

She shakes her tambourine
Upon mystical hips
I’m in love with a woman
Who doesn’t know I exist
And she dances like nobody’s watching
And she dances like everyone’s around
Am I up or am I down?
Am I alive or dead?
This gypsy woman’s gotten to my head
Cause when she sings
The angels and demons flee and arrive
They’re all expecting a surprise
But she won’t look them in the eye
Flamboyant and raggedy
She dresses in disguise
If only I could find out what she’s hiding from
A hurricane beneath a calm sky
But it all gets lost in her sea of sound

The world is filled with colors
But I only see the blues
The sky is filled with stars
But I only see you
And the future is bleak
For those who seek
Fulfillment in all the wrong places
But between you and me,
The clouds and the sea,
There’s only one face I see
So rock me in your arms
Tell me everything is gonna be alright
Silver and gold for the fools
And our eternal peace at night
Forgive me my mistakes
Forgive me for breaking the rules
Never learned how to love from a teacher
Never learned how to love in school
And the future is nice
For those who roll the dice
And can afford to be let down
But between me and you,
No diamonds or rubies
Could replace what you do
So rock me in your arms
Blow my mind with your soul
Silver and gold for the fools
I’ll take your voice and a lullaby
My heart is like an open vein
Without you I’d go insane
And we’re crazy enough as it is
You and me, the dream, and this
