I’ll open the door before you knock
barefoot
heart lit
shaking
I’ll kiss your mouth before you speak
not to quiet you
but to show you
what language was always
reaching for
I’m wearing your pants tonight
for the first time
in a long time
& I kissed them
and kissed them
and kissed them
as if they were you
I carry worlds within my chest,
silent storms I don’t confess.
A smile, a nod,a quiet plea,
hoping someone sees through me.
The lanterns flickered out
One by one.
With every step down the lane,
I left behind
All the darkness I had let light
Up my life.
If you return,
do not knock,
the door has memorized your hands.

If you leave,
do not turn back,
the wind carries only forward.
