Phoenix-Bird.

In memory of John White the talented
sculptor of beauty from trees. R.I.P.
..................................................................

Rising from what appears petrified stone
stands the ****, elmwood sea bird,
head *****, wide-eyed and wings tightly rolled.
Sleek with much oiling, prepared
to a smoothness with masterful honing
to grace any home, careful
artistic handling sculpted life-like finely-*****
structure, feathery wings, rare
hooded head, feet webbed to perfection thrown
over elm boulder, toes pared
to sharp-claw completion, finely tooled cloning
of the real might soon be heard
shaking whittled wings to leave wooden throne,
and magically fly, stirring
dreams that a phoenix bird has risen and flown.

Don’t eat chicken noodle soup from a saucepan leaned back in a recliner
because your neighbor could hit his wife in the back of the head
with a cue ball and the cops might siren down your street
causing you to flinch and spill hot broth on your
chest;  I have a bone to pick with the coward.

Here on Earth
We are just visitors.
Inquisitors to our own detriment;
Still, curiosity is prevalent to our
Intelligence.

Here on Earth
We are all mentors.
Decorating life's halls with pictures;
Memoirs of our fallacious
Lessons

Here on Earth
We are all creators.
Creatures made of muddy water;
Still, Your reflection can be seen with
Imagination.

Here on Earth
We are all listeners.
Master practitioners of selecting
Information gatherers, join our
Organization.

Here on Earth
I was my own body
Until society taught me that
Rejection is a fate far worse than
Death.

I've had my share of good teachers.
Mr. Stegall in third grade.
He taught me that a man can be calm, gentle and kind.
Strange.

We inched towards that space today
You and I
Where lovers pace themselves before
The taste of nectar
Takes their breath away.
We dallied in some dreamy glade
And made ourselves
Stand still
To smell the longing mounting, then
Me and you
Began counting seconds 'til through
The moment's glaze
We silently pledged our love anew.
