The first day
of autumn
a cold dark
dank morn

Summer's
a distant memory
and winter's
becoming born

People keep telling me
to get a stick
I don't want one stick
or two sticks
I'd rather fall over
and start again

Touch of ground frost this morning
First of the season

But I can sit and dream a while
about her and her perfect smile
Yes I can be in my dreams
and watch her dance
between moonbeams
Her golden silken hair all free
as she comes
and walks by me
I see her smile
and laugh along
and listen as she
sings her song
No one can
compete for her
forever there
A part of me until I die
seen by my third eye

There's a large Canadian
Redwood tree
near our garden
The foliage down one side
has turned brown
They say it was caused
by 'The Beast from the East'
a storm we had
earlier in the year
Maybe it will pick up
in the winter

Autumn is just around the corner
quite a lot of rain
Some flowers starting to die back
Birds seem quieter now
The breeding season is over

Blueberries on the table stand
waiting for some hungry hands
One by one they disappear
There must be more than this here

Maggie's handing them around
They disappear without a sound
Some eat them one at a time
Others three or four or nine

The plastic bottom is starting to show
as Maggie takes another row
They didn't last all that long
and we'll be sorry when they're gone
